Analysis of Acetabular Anteversion Angle in Normal Korean Adults using CT -Results in 480 Hips-

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find the standard value of acetabular anteversion
angle in normal Korean abults, to analyze the difference between the values of males and females and finally to confirm the difference between the values of males and females and
finally to confirm the confirm correlation of the it and age.
Four hundreds and eighty hips were studied in 120 males and females respectively. They had normal range of hip motion, no previous or present hip disease, and no abnormal finding atsimple radiograph. They were divided into six groups according to
their
ages from twenties to seventies and all groups included twenty persons, forty hips. After screening of hips with simple radiograph, CT scan were perfomed at the level of center of femoral head. Angle was measured at the angle made by the line
perpendicular to a line through the posterior magins of both ischial bones and the line from the anterior border of acetabulum to posterior border. Statistical analysis was performed with SAS system. Mean vallue of acetabular anteversio angle was
19.8¡¾3.4 degrees in all(17.9¡¾4.7 in male and 21.5¡¾5.4 in female). The angle of female increased significantly as aging(p=0.002 in right, p=0.021 in left). In male, significant increasement of angle was not noted but increasing tendency was
obsered.
Aetabular anteversion angel was not noted but increasing tondency was observed. Aetabular anteversion angel increased significantly as aging in Korea adults(p=0.024). Angle was larger in female than in all age groups(p=0.0001). There was no
significant
difference of angle between right and left acetablum(p=0.621).
In conclusion acetabular anteversion angle is slightly larger in both male and female than that of foreign studies. This paper gives the standard value of acetabular anteversion angle in normal Korean adults, which can be considered as one of
useful
points in total replacement arthrplasty or other procedures in which acetabular orientation is changed.
